Big & Stout Bulls - Ready for service - Available in Quantity - All
Performance Data Published
These bulls are the real deal. They were developed on soyhulls and hay on large rough pastures. They are sound, functional and ready to go to work. You won't find quality this deep, with as much data to back up our claims anywhere else in the Southeast this Spring. The Optimum Beef Bulls Development Program is a cooperative bull development and marketing program made up of eighteen different member operations from across the state of Georgia. All of our members concentrate their breeding programs on the breeds of Simmental, Angus or SimAngus cattle. Most of our members have small herds, averaging 40 breeding females. All members utilize artificial insemination and embryo transfer in their herds, which insures genetic quality equal to any of the larger seedstock operations. All 65 bulls that enter the 2007/2008 development program are from the top third of their contemporary groups in our members herds. They were closely screened before they arrived, so as to insure only the very best herd sire candidates are available for sale in the end of program sale. They are developed together in large pastures, on free choice soybean hull pellets and bermuda grass hay. They are tested for gaining ability for 112 days and the results from the 2007 gain test are published in the 112 Day Gain Report. During the gain test, they are ultrasound scanned for carcass merit and also complete a comprehensive breeding efficency exam. All are DNA tested to further determine carcass merit and to determine if they are homozygous black or if they carry the red color gene. No bulls are picked from the sale offering prior to the sale, so that you will have an excellent selection on sale day. Our next sale will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008. The sale will be held at the Pine Ridge Simmentals sale facility, located on Hwy. 31, just one mile North of the Georgia-Florida line in Valdosta, GA. A complete Sale Catalog will be provided for you on this website about two months prior to the sale. A printed sale catalog will be mailed in late February 2008. Inquiries prior to this time are welcome. Gain reports will be prepared and mailed after each 28 day weigh period to all interested individuals and to program participants. We thank you for your interest and hope to see you on sale day. If we may assist you in any way, please don't hesitate to contact any of the members or fill out a customer feedback form to get your name on the mailing list for a sale catalog or gain report.
Our MissionTo breed, develop and identify superior Simmental, Angus and SimAngus composite seedstock in our member herds thru performance DNA testing, so as to provide to commercial and purebred cattle breeders, the most favorable genetics for growth and reproduction in the southeastern United States.
Cooperative Profile
In 2001, 16 progressive seedstock producers from Georgia formed a cooperative bull development and marketing group called the Canoochee Forage Bull Development Program. At that time, the total number of Registered Simmental and Angus cows in the 16 members herds totaled slightly over 450 cows. Since that time, the number of cattle in our members herds has more than doubled. The Canoochee Bull Development Program is limited to no more than 100 bulls each year, due to available land and resources. With over 1000 Reg. Angus and Simmental cows producing high quality A. I. sired calves each year in our members herds, the need for another marketing avenue was needed. After much discussion, research and planning, the Optimum Beef Bulls Development Program was launched on September 1, 2006, with the delivery of 55 Simmental, SimAngus and Angus bulls to the Chris & Ray Keller Farm in Alma, GA. You may rest assured that the bulls offered through the Optimum Sale are of the highest quality.
